  C. Hiranaka, M.Ed., O.T.R., P.I.  This Training Initiative Project (TIP) will develop a training program to prepare professional staff in the provision of services for older individuals with developmental disabilities. TIP projects at other UAPs have developed many training materials and programs on aging and developmental disabilities which meet the needs of the mainstream culture. The nation, with its demographic shift toward increasing cultural diversity, and California, with a majority of the population now consisting of ethnic minority groups, requires a more specific, culturally competent approach to serve its diverse aging population with developmental disabilities. Over a five-year period, the USC UAP proposes to develop and refine existing training materials and implement training on aging and developmental disabilities which will be culturally competent for individuals from the African-American, Asian-American, and Hispanic-American cultures.
